About the Art Therapy Program...
Art Therapy has the ability to validate and transcend cultural, expressive, and physical boundaries and provide valuable coping skills to patients to decrease stress during hospitalization. Our resident art therapist facilitates the use of creative tools for self-expression with children in group settings and one-on-one sessions. The creative process helps hospitalized children, teens, and their families to cope better with stress, to work through traumatic experiences, to voice unexpressed thoughts and emotions, and to enjoy the pleasures of creativity.
The Art Therapy Program is not funded through traditional sources of hospital revenue. We depend on private philanthropy to fund the
program. Our community of donors help to maintain and expand this critical program at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital.
With the generous support of donors like you we are able to:
- Continue the program through supporting our art therapist
- Purchase necessary art supplies
- Offer weekly art groups to patients and families
- Provide direct support to siblings by hosting Sibling Art Groups
- Offer events such as Art Day, which involves community artists
To learn more about the Art Therapy Program, please call Suzanne Yau at (415) 353-1203 or visit UCSFBenioffChildrens.org.
